Australian Translations
- Bikkie= bisquit (cookie or cracker)
- Bushwalking= hiking
- Capsicum= red pepper
- Coriander= cilantro
- Flat white= espresso and milk (basically a latte)
- Footy= Australian Rules Football
- Fortnight= every two weeks
- Heaps= a lot
- Holiday= vacation
- How ya goin'= common greeting (basically how's it going)
- Long black= espresso and water (basically an Americano but with less water)
- Partner= boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse, etc.
- Plunger coffee= French press
- Pot= short glass of beer
- Savory= not sweet
- Toilet= bathroom
Australian Pronunciations
- The Influction Rule-
- When speaking complete sentences, add an influction at the end as if you were asking a question.
- The R Rule-
- If there is an r in the middle of the word, pronounce it as a soft r as if you were from Boston. Note: there are exceptions to this rule.
- Ex. Federation Square, the r in Federation is pronounced as a normal r and the r in Square is pronounced as a soft r.
- The Words Ending in a Vowel Rule-
- If a word ends in a vowel, add an r to the end and pronounce it as an r between a normal r and a soft r.
- Ex. America is pronounced Americer and Australia is pronounced Australier.
